2018 Ford Edge Review

An engaging midsize SUV, the 2018 Ford Edge can provide drivers versatility, convenient tech features, and the interior space needed in a vehicle for weekend adventures, family vacations, and day-to-day driving. While it is a family-friendly vehicle, the Edge is also smooth and sporty enough for daily driving.

The experienced sales team at DeLong Ford Inc. has put together this review of the 2018 Ford Edge for drivers in Dwight, Streator, and Morris to discuss what this SUV has to offer. Read on below to learn more.

Versatile Engine Choices

There's plenty to choose from engine-wise when considering the 2018 Edge. There are three engines to choose from, as a matter of fact. The standard engine is a turbocharged 2.0L EcoBoost® engine, which is fuel-efficient and perfect for the daily commute to work. It's also powerful enough for highway driving, providing 245 horsepower. The base engine provides an EPA-estimated 20 MPG in the city and 29 MPG on the highway.

The twin-turbo 2.7L EcoBoost® engine in the Edge Sport trim puts out a pavement-shaking 315 horsepower with its powerful V6 engine, perfect for confident acceleration off the starting line. For those seeking a bigger thrill on the roads and better pass-and-merge highway driving, this engine isn't to be missed.

Ford Technology

Thanks to intuitive technology found in the Edge, every drive is more convenient. The Edge comes standard with a 4.2-inch infotainment touchscreen and SYNC® technology with Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ capability. All you have to do is link a smartphone to the SYNC® interface. It makes it easy to read text messages, play songs from your favorite bands, and access other select apps, including navigation.

Driver assistive technologies will keep you safe while driving. The optional Lane-Keeping System will alert you if the car is drifting from its lane while driving, letting you know it's time to guide the vehicle back to the center of the lane. When backing into a spot or parallel parking, the Available Enhanced Active Park Assist will take over by guiding the vehicle into a parking spot with little work needed from the driver.

Interior Features

It's often said comfort is king. The Ford Edge has plenty of comfort and spacious amounts of storage, too. The 40.2 in. of front headroom and 42.6 in. of front legroom let both the front driver and passenger stretch out and feel comfortable even on longer drivers. There's plenty of room for those in the back, too, with 40.6 in. of legroom for those riding in the back seat.

When folding down the 60/40 split seat, the Edge offers 73.4 cu. ft. of cargo space, and there's 39.2 cu. ft. of cargo room behind the back seat. The available hands-free liftgate lets you load in cargo with a quick wave of your foot near the rear bumper. Even if your hands are full, you don't have to put things down and pull out a key with this feature.
